Regional overview
## One team, one standard, right across the South West.
H&H Electrical Contractors (SW) Ltd works both sides of the Severn. The SW in our name is not decoration, a large share of our work sits in Bristol, Bath and Gloucestershire, reached directly from our Caldicot base over the M48 and M4 crossings. This page is the regional overview for South West customers, with links down to the individual town pages.

The South West is a demanding region to work in electrically, and that is exactly why we like it. Bath is dominated by listed and conservation-area Georgian stone where a rewire has to be planned around what you are not allowed to touch. Bristol swings from Victorian terraces in Bedminster and Easton through Clifton townhouses to modern harbourside apartments and a very active commercial fit-out market. Gloucestershire adds Cotswold stone cottages, converted barns, agricultural buildings and long rural supplies.

Every job is run by the two owners, Levi J C Holmes and Joseph Herbert, with over 15 years of combined experience. NAPIT registration, full insurance cover and a free survey before any fixed-price quote apply exactly the same on this side of the bridge as they do in South Wales.

- Severnside and the M4/M5 corridorCommercial and light-industrial units at Avonmouth, Severn Beach, Almondsbury and along the M5 approaches, where fit-out and maintenance work is scheduled around trading hours.

What we are called for here
## The work the South West customers ask us for most.

### EV charger installation
Ohme accredited installations for homes, workplaces and small fleets. Supply capacity, earthing arrangement and cable route surveyed before the price is fixed.

### Rewires in period property
Georgian, Victorian and Cotswold stone properties where the challenge is running new circuits without wrecking lath and plaster, cornice, panelling or original floors.

### EICRs and landlord compliance
Bristol and Bath carry a very large rental and HMO market. Reports are written so agents and landlords can see immediately what needs doing and what does not.

### Consumer unit upgrades
Modern 18th Edition boards with RCBO protection replacing old fuse boards and single-RCD units, tested, certified and registered.

### Commercial and industrial fit-outs
Lighting, power, distribution and containment for retail, office and industrial premises across Bristol, Bath and Gloucestershire, delivered to programme.

### 24/7 emergency call-outs
Power loss, persistent tripping or a fault that looks dangerous. Call-out charges are confirmed before we travel.

Why H&H
## Why customers across the South West book us.

### Genuinely local to the region
One crossing, not a long haul. That keeps travel out of the price and keeps return visits, snagging and follow-up testing practical rather than something we try to avoid.

### Comfortable with period and listed property
Bath and the Cotswolds are unforgiving of a rushed rewire. We plan routes to minimise chasing and making-good, and we say up front where a compromise will be needed.

### NAPIT registered, fully insured
Public liability, employers' liability and professional indemnity cover, with every notifiable job registered and certified through NAPIT.

### Fixed price after a free survey
You get a written quote before anything starts. No day-rate creep, no invoice that bears no resemblance to the conversation you had.

In detail
## What working in the South West actually involves.
Request a free survey

### Working in conservation areas and listed buildings
A large part of Bath and much of central Bristol and the Cotswolds sits inside conservation areas, with a significant number of listed buildings among them. Electrical work in those properties is not simply a technical exercise. Where you can run a cable, what you can chase, what surface containment is acceptable and what fittings are appropriate all become part of the specification.

Our approach is to survey properly, agree the route and the finish with you before we start, and use existing voids, floor routes and joinery lines wherever they exist. Where a compromise is unavoidable, for example surface conduit in a cellar or a service riser, we point it out at quote stage rather than presenting it as a fait accompli once the walls are open.

Where listed building consent is required for the works, that is the property owner's responsibility to obtain, and we will not begin work that needs it until it is in place.

### Rental and HMO compliance in Bristol and Bath
Both cities have very high concentrations of rented housing, and both have active licensing regimes for houses in multiple occupation. The practical effect is that EICRs, emergency lighting where applicable, and clear certification are not optional extras, they are the paperwork that keeps a property lettable.

We write reports to be usable. Observations are coded and explained, remedial work is quoted separately so you can see what the compliance cost actually is, and where a defect belongs to shared infrastructure in a converted building we say so instead of dropping it on the wrong party.

### Rural Gloucestershire and long supplies
Properties in the Forest of Dean, the Cotswold villages and the farmland between them frequently sit at the end of long service cables or overhead supplies, sometimes with outbuildings, stables, workshops or annexes fed from a sub-main added decades ago.

Those installations need voltage drop calculated properly, earthing arrangements confirmed rather than assumed, and armoured cable specified and installed to survive being buried in a field rather than run down a hallway. It is the sort of work where cutting corners does not show up for two years and then shows up badly.

### Commercial work across the South West
Retail units, offices, workshops and light industrial premises across Bristol, Bath and Gloucestershire form a steady share of our workload. Typical scope is lighting and power distribution, board changes, containment, small power for workstations, emergency lighting and testing, and planned maintenance visits.

Commercial jobs are sequenced around trading hours and other trades. Our standard hours run 7am to 8pm seven days a week, which gives real flexibility to work outside a premises' opening times without it becoming an out-of-hours premium argument.

How it works
## From first call to certificate.

- Step 01
### Inspection
Free on-site survey. We look at the existing installation, the space and the outcome you need, no pressure, no obligation.

- Step 02
### Diagnosis & fixed quote
We scope the work, agree the spec in plain English and give you a fixed-price written quote with no hidden extras.

- Step 03
### Booked-in works
We turn up when we say we will, protect the space with dust sheets and keep disruption to your day to a minimum.

- Step 04
### Testing & verification
Every circuit is tested to BS 7671 (18th Edition). Nothing gets signed off until the readings are right.

- Step 05
### Certification & handover
You get NAPIT-backed certification, a tidy handover and a clear explanation of what's been done and why.

FAQs
## the South West questions, answered straight.
Which parts of the South West do you cover?+Bristol and its suburbs, Bath and North East Somerset, and Gloucestershire including Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Lydney and the Forest of Dean, plus the Severnside corridor. If you are on the edge of that, ring us and we will be straight with you about whether we can service the job properly.

You are based in Wales, does that mean higher prices in Bristol or Bath?+No. The crossing puts Bristol around thirty to forty minutes away, which is closer than a lot of Bristol-based firms are to their outer jobs. Travel is not added as a separate charge inside the areas listed here.

Do you work on listed buildings and in conservation areas?+Yes, and it is a large part of our Bath and Cotswolds workload. We plan cable routes to minimise chasing and making-good, and agree the approach with you before starting. Any listed building consent required is the owner's to obtain before work begins.

Can you carry out EICRs for letting agents and landlords?+Yes, for single lets, HMOs and portfolios. Reports are issued with observation codes explained clearly, and any remedial work is quoted separately so you can see the real cost of compliance.

Do you install EV chargers in the South West?+Yes. We are Ohme accredited and install for homes, workplaces and small fleets. We survey supply capacity, earthing and the cable route before quoting so the price you agree is the price you pay.

How fast can you attend an emergency in Bristol or Bath?+We run 24/7 emergency call-outs. Attendance depends on traffic and the crossing, and we will give you a realistic time when you call rather than an optimistic one. The call-out charge is confirmed before we set off.

Are you qualified and insured to work in England as well as Wales?+Yes. NAPIT registration and our insurance cover apply across England and Wales, and BS 7671 wiring regulations are the same on both sides of the Severn. Building control notification differs procedurally, and we handle that through NAPIT.

How do you take payment?+Bank transfer or cash. We do not currently accept card payments.

What hours do you work?+7am to 8pm, seven days a week, plus 24/7 emergency cover. That flexibility is particularly useful for commercial work that has to happen outside trading hours.
