Regional overview
## One team, one standard, right across South Wales.
H&H Electrical Contractors (SW) Ltd is a South Wales electrical contractor, run by Levi J C Holmes and Joseph Herbert, with more than 15 years of combined experience on domestic, commercial and industrial installations. Our base at Caldicot in Monmouthshire sits a couple of minutes from junction 23A of the M4, which is why our diary reaches from the Wye Valley in the east through Newport and out to Cardiff in the west without the travel time that pushes a lot of contractors into charging a premium for it.

This page is the regional overview. If you already know your town, go straight to the local page below for response times, the property types we most often work on there and postcode coverage. If you are pricing up a larger project, a portfolio of rentals, a multi-site commercial contract or a run of EV chargers across several addresses, the whole region is covered by the same two owners, the same NAPIT registration and the same fixed-price approach to quoting.

South Wales is not one market, it is several. Chepstow and the Monmouthshire villages are heavy on older stone and pre-war housing stock. Newport carries a huge volume of Victorian and inter-war terraces alongside new estates on the eastern edge. Cardiff runs from Edwardian conversions and student HMOs in Cathays and Roath to modern apartment blocks in the Bay. The electrical work each of those throws up is genuinely different, and pricing them as if they were the same is how customers end up with variations halfway through a job.

Everything we install is certified. Everything is tested. Notifiable work is registered through NAPIT, so your certificate lands with you and with building control without you having to chase anyone for it.

### Coverage at a glance

- Monmouthshire, our home patchCaldicot, Chepstow, Magor, Undy, Rogiet, Portskewett, Mathern and the surrounding villages. Routine work usually goes in the same week, and emergencies are typically attended within the hour.

- Newport and the eastern M4 corridorNewport city, Langstone, Caldicot Levels, Llanwern, Duffryn and the industrial estates off junctions 23A to 26. Roughly twenty to twenty-five minutes door to door.

- Cardiff and the Vale fringeCardiff city and the Bay, Cathays, Roath, Llanishen, Grangetown and out towards Penarth. Around forty minutes, and priced without a travel surcharge tacked on.

- Wye Valley and rural GwentThe villages north of Chepstow towards Tintern and St Arvans, where supplies are often long, overhead or shared, and where a proper survey before quoting matters more than anywhere else.

What we are called for here
## The work South Wales customers ask us for most.

### EV charger installation
Ohme accredited installs on driveways, shared parking and workplace car parks. Load assessment, cable route and any DNO notification handled before we quote, not discovered afterwards.

### Full and partial rewires
South Wales has a large pre-1980s housing stock. Rewires here are as much about protecting plaster, floors and period features as they are about the cable itself.

### EICRs for landlords
Reports for single lets, HMOs and portfolios across Newport, Cardiff and Monmouthshire, written so remedial work is clearly separated from observations that need no action.

### Consumer unit upgrades
Old rewireable fuse boards and early plastic units swapped for 18th Edition boards with RCBO protection on each circuit, tested and certified the same day in most cases.

### Commercial and industrial fit-outs
Lighting, power, distribution and containment for units on the estates around Newport, Cardiff and the Severnside corridor, sequenced around your programme rather than ours.

### 24/7 emergency call-outs
Loss of power, repeated tripping, burning smells or visible damage. Call-out charges are quoted before we set off, so nothing on the invoice is a surprise.

Why H&H
## Why customers across South Wales book us.

### Two owners, on the tools
Levi and Joseph run the business and do the work. You are not handed to a subcontractor you have never spoken to, and the person who quoted the job is the person on site.

### NAPIT registered and fully insured
Public liability, employers' liability and professional indemnity cover in place, with NAPIT registration behind every notifiable job and certificate.

### Fixed prices, agreed first
Free survey, written quote, and no work started until you have accepted it. Variations are only ever raised where the scope genuinely changes, and always agreed before we proceed.

### 5.0 star Google rating
Our review profile is public and our work is on the site. Read what South Wales customers actually say before you commit to anything.

In detail
## What working in South Wales actually involves.

### Why regional coverage matters for pricing
Distance is the hidden cost in electrical work. A contractor travelling in from Swansea or the Valleys for a Chepstow rewire has to price the travel somewhere, and it usually lands in the day rate or in a call-out minimum. Working from Caldicot means the eastern half of South Wales is short-run for us, so the quote reflects the work rather than the mileage.

It also changes what is realistic on timing. A same-week booking for a socket circuit or an EICR is only deliverable when the job is thirty minutes away rather than ninety. That is the practical reason our Monmouthshire, Newport and Cardiff pages promise the response windows they do, and why we do not promise the same for work well outside the region.

### Housing stock across the region, and what it means for your job
Pre-1919 stone and brick properties, common in Chepstow, rural Monmouthshire and older parts of Newport, rarely take a cable chase without significant making-good. We plan runs around that from the survey stage, using existing voids, surface containment where it belongs and hidden runs where the finish demands it.

Inter-war and post-war semis, the bulk of Newport, Caldicot and much of Cardiff's suburbs, often still carry a rewireable fuse board or an early split-load unit with a single RCD. Those are the installations where one fault takes out half the house, and where an upgrade to individual RCBO protection makes the biggest practical difference.

Conversions and HMOs, concentrated in Cardiff and central Newport, frequently share sub-mains and risers between flats. An EICR on one flat can turn up a defect that sits in shared infrastructure, so the scope has to be set clearly at the outset. We flag it rather than leaving a landlord holding a report they cannot act on.

New build and recent estate housing across the region tends to be sound but specified to the minimum. The common jobs here are additional circuits, garden and garage power, EV chargers and consumer unit upgrades where a landlord is letting the property out.

### EV charging across South Wales
EV charging is the fastest growing part of our workload, and it is the area where a bad install shows up quickest. The variables that matter are the incoming supply capacity, the distance from the consumer unit to the parking position, the earthing arrangement and whether the property needs an earth rod or a device with integrated open-PEN protection.

We are Ohme accredited, so accredited installs are available where that is the unit you want. Where you already have a charger, or your energy supplier has specified one, we will install and certify it provided it is compliant and suitable for the supply.

Terraced streets in Newport and Cardiff are the common sticking point, because there is often no off-street parking and cabling across a public footway is not something we will do. Where that is the case we will tell you straight away rather than surveying it and quoting for something unworkable.

### Compliance, certification and paperwork
Every job leaves with the right documentation. Installation work is issued with an Electrical Installation Certificate or a Minor Works Certificate as appropriate, and notifiable work is registered with building control through NAPIT.

EICRs are supplied with observation codes explained in plain terms, so you can see what is a genuine C1 or C2 needing action, what is a C3 improvement recommendation, and what is simply noted. Landlords across South Wales need that clarity because the report is the document a tenant, agent or local authority will look at.

How it works
## From first call to certificate.

- Step 01
### Inspection
Free on-site survey. We look at the existing installation, the space and the outcome you need, no pressure, no obligation.

- Step 02
### Diagnosis & fixed quote
We scope the work, agree the spec in plain English and give you a fixed-price written quote with no hidden extras.

- Step 03
### Booked-in works
We turn up when we say we will, protect the space with dust sheets and keep disruption to your day to a minimum.

- Step 04
### Testing & verification
Every circuit is tested to BS 7671 (18th Edition). Nothing gets signed off until the readings are right.

- Step 05
### Certification & handover
You get NAPIT-backed certification, a tidy handover and a clear explanation of what's been done and why.

FAQs
## South Wales questions, answered straight.
Which parts of South Wales do you cover?+We work from Caldicot in Monmouthshire out along the M4 corridor, covering Chepstow, Caldicot, Magor, Undy, Rogiet, Portskewett, Newport and Cardiff, plus the surrounding villages and the Wye Valley. If you are just outside that, ring us and we will tell you honestly whether we can service the job properly.

Do you charge extra for travel within South Wales?+No. Everywhere on this page is inside our normal working radius from Caldicot, so travel is not added as a separate line on the quote. Anything outside the region we would discuss with you before quoting.

How quickly can you attend an emergency in South Wales?+We provide 24/7 emergency call-outs. In Monmouthshire we are usually on site within the hour. Newport and Cardiff take a little longer depending on traffic, and we will give you a realistic time when you ring rather than an optimistic one.

Are you registered and insured?+Yes. We are NAPIT registered and Ohme accredited, and we carry public liability, employers' liability and professional indemnity insurance. Documentation is available on request before work starts.

Can you handle work across several properties or sites?+Yes. Landlord portfolios, multi-site commercial contracts and phased EV charger rollouts are all work we take on. It is quoted as a programme rather than as separate jobs, and scheduled around access.

Do you take on commercial and industrial work in the region?+We do. Fit-outs, lighting and power installations, distribution boards, containment and planned maintenance for units and premises across Newport, Cardiff and the Severnside estates.

How do you quote?+A free survey first, then a written fixed-price quote. No work starts until you have accepted it, and we only revisit the price if the scope genuinely changes, which we agree with you before continuing.

How can I pay?+Bank transfer or cash. We do not currently take card payments.

What are your working hours?+Standard hours are 7am to 8pm, seven days a week, with 24/7 cover for genuine emergencies outside those hours.
